Why you should stop saving clothes ‘for best’

Are you guilty of buying things you love and saving them for ‘best’?

In the past, wardrobe’s would have been separated out into fairly strict categories of formal workwear, casual wear and evening wear. These categories would rarely cross over ! Over the years the lines have blurred and (thanks to COVID), the last three years has seen them blur even further. Workwear tends to be less ‘formal’, casual wear doesn’t seem to be quite so casual and evening wear can be just about anything.

The reasons for not wearing clothes may be….

  • I don’t have anywhere to wear it.

  • I’m saving it for a ‘special occasion’

  • It’s my favourite item, what if I wear it out?

  • I may not find something like this again !

The wonderful thing about style today is that not only are the lines of formal and casual blurred, but most outfits can be easily dressed up or dressed down with some simple styling.

Therefore, there is no reason at all not to get ample wear from the majority of items within your wardrobe.

Try these top tips to get the most from your wardrobe..

  • If I really love an item, WEAR IT and enjoy it !

    • It is not uncommon for women to avoid wearing much loved items because they fear they’ll get worn out quicker. Many fashion brands change stock and styles so quickly it is easy to panic that you’ll never find the same item again. I promise you, once a garment has been enjoyed and is finally worn enough to leave your wardrobe, something equally as gorgeous will find its way into your life to replace it. So wear your clothes!

  • Consider making your outfits transferable ..

    • When selecting outfits for a night out or an event, consider whether they could be styled differently to be worn during the daytime or to work. Sometimes a simple change to footwear or the addition of a casual jacket / knit can instantly take something previously assigned as ‘evening’ into daytime. This will help you get more wear out of your clothes.

  • Try renting an outfit for events or occasions.

    • If you want something standout for an event, there are so many great companies to rent from. It means you can wear something fabulous and avoid those ‘worn once’ outfits sitting at the back of your wardrobe. I will do a separate post on renting soon.

  • Embrace the feel good factor everyday.

    • If you’re stuck in a rut heading for the same old jeans and sweats each day, have a peek inside your wardrobe. Pluck out an outfit you’ve worn and felt great in and WEAR IT.

Life is too short not to feel great in your clothes.
